The Only Thing That Matters: Why Trigger Pull Trumps Stance
From the latest episode of the Guns Pocast.US- We spend a ridiculous amount of time and money obsessing over the peripherals of shooting. We buy the newest grips, we watch videos on the perfect tactical stance, and we agonize over sight pictures. But in a recent conversation with Roy Huntington, we stripped all that away to look at the harsh reality of marksmanship. If you can't manage the trigger, none of the rest matters. Roy, with his decades of experience as a police firearms instructor, didn't mince words. He argues that you can have a stance that looks like a train wreck and a sight picture that is barely acceptable, but if you have a 'marvelous trigger press,' you are still going to make the hit. It is the great equalizer in shooting mechanics. Conversely, you can look like the perfect operator on the range—feet planted, grip crushed, sights aligned—but a jerk of the trigger throws all that preparation into the dirt. In this episode, we discuss why trigger control isn't just a fundamental; it is the fundamental that defines success or failure.
